The pistol has a new parkerized finish, proper markings and small parts for a 1944 vintage Remington and the serial number is from the proper serial range for a Remington Rand, all of which combine to make this a great pistol to add to a collection. Any advice or direction you could give would be very much appreciated. This is a 1911-A1 pistol made by Remington Rand in 1944 during WWII. I'd really like to learn the history of this gun and approximate what it might be worth. It has the checkered stamped trigger, checkered hammer with narrow spur. It makes me think this was brought back to the States by a soldier and may be quite a find. Also has the Ordinance Dept stamp but is a light stamp. Towards the front of the frame is a U and possibly an E or a 3? It also has the FJA stamp behind the trigger near the top of the handle. The inside of the frame near the hammer has what looks like a 6 or a 9. The inner barrel looks superb and marked HS with a P on the other side (may be slightly larger than the P stamp found near the safety button.I can't really tell). I've looked it over at it's condition is fantastic. Story has it the guy who passed had it given to him by his grandfather who served in WWII (not sure what capacity). I'm seriously considering buying a 1943 Remington Rand 1911A1 (serial NO 1285XXX) that someone I know is selling for a friend's estate sale. There is a hand written note on top right corner вЂњKUNMING, CHINAвЂќ. This form is dated 7 July 1945 with вЂњCONSIGNORвЂќ listed as вЂњCBI WAR DOG DETACHMENT, APO 6299вЂќ with вЂњSHIP TOвЂќ вЂњCOMMANDING OFFICER HEADQUARTERS & HEADQUARTERS, O.S.S., DETACHMENT, APO 627. Also accompanying is a Quartermaster Corps form 434, shipping ticket for 27 dog crates, dog leashes, dog collars, kennel chains, iron stakes, dog pans and which also lists 27 1911A1 pistols by serial number including this pistol.
